I found an existing pet sitting app that had a lot of downloads but a very poor UX and high cost to use and I researched the pet industry and found it to be a sizeable industry with a clear market. I worked with a Pet Sitter in my area with the goal that if I could get them to switch from their app to mine then I had a good initial product market fit.
I designed and coded the initial app within 1 month. From there I have spent the last couple of years working very closely with my users to improve the product by fixing bugs they find and adding features they request. Today Walkies is a very comprehensive app and website that is poised to grow significantly.
Walkies follows Apple's Human Interface Guidelines very closely to ensure that new users instinctively understand how to use it. From its judicial use of color and single color to infer interactivity to its use of the SF Rounded font and SF Symbols. Walkies is designed to feel like the pet sitting app Apple would make. I'm a huge advocate of native design and respecting the platform your product is on.
